A Christian will disagree with another Christian, and they will call them on their statements/actions. Much like Shin is doing to the past. At the same time he is arguing for the current Christianity in which case he wants arguments based on scripture rather than history. He is defending himself, a Christian, and his religion... Maybe too much of a stretch, but in the same way an American would defend his country's ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, if someone was to draw an argument based on the dark past of America, and attach it to today.

To ignore all those "misinterpretations" would break the barrier of organized religion and enter into the realm of spirituality. as such is the case, it would no longer be Religion, but spirituality.
My point is the dogma, or as you put it... misinterpretations, are an intrigal part of the christian religion.
