Actually, the item descriptions are pretty ripe with info. There's just not enough context given to us for any of it to be useful.

I, for one, can't wait for the English translation of this. GunZ coulda been slightly more compelling if MAIET didn't leave the story at the door.

I don't see how the story would have mattered outside of maybe quest mode. They would have needed to redo or add other modes to the game.
