This hacking information page should shed some light on the hacking that goes on in GunZ. We hope that by bringing more information to light about the history of hacking, less new users will be prone to using GunZ hacks.
Why do people use hacks in GunZ?
For the most part, players who have little to no skill use GunZ hacks to try to compete with skilled players. The immediate drawback to this is that it is extremely easy to tell who is hacking and who isn't.
In the game of GunZ, anyone accused of hacking is immediately seen as a "Newbie" or a "Script Kiddie." Usually, as soon as a hacker or cheater is found in a game, all of the legitimate players will leave and find a different server. Needless to say, hacking and cheating is an easy way to make everyone think that you have no skill. The only way to become popular in GunZ is to have real skill and have the ability to defeat opponents using tactics and raw skill.
What happens if they get caught cheating or hacking?
Any users caught hacking or cheating or trafficing hacks or advertising hacks in any capacity can be banned by MAIET administrators. Since the game is still in beta, there haven't been massive bans or level reductions in quite some time, although we can certainly expect mass bannings for hacks once the game is released.
There are some cosmetic hacks that currently cause no apparent harm. These hacks (and all hacks) will be obsolete as soon as MAIET releases XTrap for the international version, making the use of hacks nearly impossible in normal play.
"Locust Plague" - November/December 2005
-Deleted non-clanmaster accounts
-Was spread via worm and injected code into GunZ's source files
-Caused a lot of players have to restart their accounts, and caused many players to quit completely.
Although this hack lasted quite a bit of tiem, it has since been patched by MAIET and no longer causes problems for the GunZ community.
God Mode, Massive Massive, Weapon Lock,
Air Walk, and Speed Hack
-Caused invincibility, extreme easy killing, and annoyance
-Worked through the modification of scripts and packet editing
-Estimated first sightings in January 2005
Although MAIET hasn't released any patches that completely block these hacks, the use of them has been on the decline due to the fact that users of these hacks can't find games to play them in. Generally, no one will play with someone that they know is cheating or hacking. It has been rumoured that hacks such as these have delayed the release of the game.
The upcomming XTrap tool for GunZ will make this hack useless as the user will not be able to run GunZ with modified source files.
Premium Hacks - Late 2005/Early 2006
-Enables the premium disabled items in IGunz.
-Works through editing the system.mrs files
While this particular hack does nothing directly "harmful" to GunZ players, it will probably become an issue and will be high grounds for being banned as users will be required to pay for these premium items once the game is released.
In summary, it should be noted that MAIET has taken an active stance against hacking and cheating. We all hope and are confident that GunZ will be released with ample protection againt hacking and cheating. In our support of the GunZ development, GunZFactor.com takes a similar stance on hacking and will not permit the linking to downloadable hacks from our forums or site or the use of hacks in our official tournaments or contests.
