I remember from a long time ago it was named butterfly because of kodachis. A person butterflying with kods the slashes would look like a ...well butterfly

I agree with the many other posters about the name coming from a female character with kodachis. I dont really see many kodachi users in ijji anymore. The male version with sword doesnt technically look like a butterfly but thats just how i feel. :P
