No mate it was "straight" men who where offended by this advert, I use " because any straight man who finds this sexual or offensive isn't very straight I think he might be hiding something, even from himself.

@STM, Why don't you like people of a different sexuality? Being gay is perfectly normal, it's just something you are you don't choose, no reason as to why you shouldn't like it. It shouldn't bother you really as your straightness doesn't bother them.

Regardless of who is offended, my point was, it's a ****ing add. Deal with it. It's one thing if every add ever was determined to use derogatory language and racial/homophobic notions to constantly barrage the gay community into submission. The case is though, people today are WAY to soft, we get offended at every step. I shudder to think what my children's lives will be like in a world where you can't make fun of **** THAT'S FUNNY because it might offend some creed, race, or religion. WHO ****ING CARES? It's a joke. Deal with it. It's funny. Stop *****ing about it, it's not like just because I make a Gay joke I hate gay people and am intending it.

This all comes down to stepping on eggshells, I've had that conversation before. Something like "should we use the term 'gay' to describe our friends in a joke?" I mean, honestly...It's just humor, something the world could not get along very well without.

Yup, I am too, but I don't care if they exaggerate it. Hell, they could do all sorts of stuff and I'd just find it as something funny and not bring it beyond that. I mean let's face it, homosexuality isn't really viewed as the norm yet so you might as well use that to make some humor about it. All sexualities can find it really funny if they just look at it for what it is and don't bring it any further, because I'm sure when they were making this they weren't trying to do anything more than that.

Yeah man, I was just commenting one how it always offends someone. I mean, I typically use gay backlash as an example since I can't usually think of something a straight person might get offended at on the fly (besides racial/religious). Noone makes fun of you for being straight ever, however, there can be people who make jokes about being gay and that's what I'm saying there.

If you're gay, fine, be gay and vice versa, but don't get offended if one makes fun of the other, especially if it wasn't intended to offend. I mean, if it was, sure get offended, but people are way to sue happy these days to care whether you meant it or not.

That's advertising. Extra stuff is there for the laugh. I mean whether you're offended or not, it is kind of funny to find out that this real macho tough-guy with a new york accent turned out to be gay, especially after demanding(in a very firm, manly sort of way) a goodbye kiss.

They were most definitely exaggerating the whole "tough guy" thing. Perhaps not overly exaggerated in the sense that they did or said things out of the ordinary, but in a sense of how their dialogue and actions were very stereotypical types of personalities(more noticably on the chef). The real humor in this ad lies in the fact that the working man who brings home the cash is seemingly less dominant than the guy who stays home and takes care of the house and ****. However, if they would have made it a man and a woman, it would have had a very different feel to it. The point was to surprise the audience, and really, wasn't it a surprise when you first saw that he was gay? If that had been a woman and a man, you would have expected the opposite sex to come down. The surprise is partly where the laugh comes from.

All I was saying is that the gay community wants to be accepted by the general public. They want their own rights, they don't want to be oppressed, etc etc. Problem is, you're talking about altering a very large social standard, and one that even defies religion(or most people's understanding of religion at least). In other words, there are many people dead-set against this, and about fifteen years ago this commercial would have been unheard of. And it wouldn't be the gays who spoke out against it, but everyone else. I'm saying, they want acceptance, but it doesn't come that easily. I think this ad shows that we're taking a step in the right direction. Despite the punchline partially having to do with the two being gay, it wasn't in a degrading or negative manner at all.
