| Member | DONT BITE MY HEAD OFF! For this I want to hear your opinions, it's no biggie, don't get worked up about it. Okay, so some games already use this- from the ever popular Counter Strike, to the addictive 2d/3d insanity that is Soldat. Basically, when you create a server/match, you are able to adjust which weapons you want to see in the game server (and if people don't like it, they just pick another server/match, easy). We already have a game mode that's melee only. I thought it would be nice to see (instead of a whole other mode), a filter for which weapons/items would be usable. For example, people have wanted to play matches that were only pistols and/or revolvers. They'd announce the game in the lobby, and a few enthusiasts would join. The match would begin and everybody would be gunning it with their handguns, and suddenly 5 mins into the match somebody pops in, all "HAR HAR HAR!!!" and unloads on everyone with a bazooka/smg/etc. Even worse when a hacker comes in and uses the bazooka stream. -_- A filter could force only a few prescribed weapons to play with/carry in inventory. Options> (checkboxes) [_] melee [_] pistol [_] revolver [_] smg [_] shotgun [_] rifle [_] grenade launcher [_] grenade [_] flashbang [_] smoke grenade [_] repair kit [_] health kit You wouldn't be able to specifically disable a particular weapon, but the weapon type. These matches would appear in another server list entirely, and won't interfere with people using the 'quick join' option, or with people that use the standard channels. Yunno how there are game sections for clanmatches and private games only? Custom wep' filtered games would appear here. It would be up to you to check them out, or not to. No pressure. People going in to join a game are already willing to switch up their inventory as required. Those that don't like wep' filtered matches wouldn't even have to bother. Totally optional. One thing that would have to be done is not allow a filter to be changed if there are more than one player in that server's lobby. Otherwise, if you were to change the setting right after a match, people might not notice they can't use certain weapons and may end up weaponless in-game or something. Keeping a server setting until everyone has left ensures surprise kills of this nature don't happen. -Pros- Play custom wep' matches Matches won't be interrupted by "MUAHAHA!" spammers that obliterate people with weps' they weren't prepared for, and that the server stays on trend. Weapon class challenges become more specific. Test yourself against other players with similar weapon skills. Train a clan that specializes in particular weps/skills. (IE: TheOcelots) etc -Cons- none i can think of, as i've listed workarounds above. Last edited by Raijin1999; 08-08-2006 at 04:34 AM. |

Now as far as dropping suggestions go, I just discovered these forums. This is the only place listed I can drop suggestions in that I can find. If there's a seperate forum, you could have linked me there already- otherwise i'm sure somebody would be happy to do so. (And i'll thank you ahead of time ;D ) As for dropping them all-in-one, i'd expect they'd each be strewn out with your seemingly typical commentary. Aside from that, I take suggestions seriously, even if you don't. I plan on being a future game designer, so gathering productive feedback on the suggestions I put up is something I greatly look forward to, not your rips on a newbie. Therefore a thread for each suggestion, which are so far, very different from each other, makes perfect sense to me as it gathers the most potential to focus on each particular suggestion. You didn't even bother to drop a related response. Back on topic; as for the kstyle issue. I saw that coming a mile away. Even though I opted suggestions that would prevent these "ZOMG! NOES! MY BUTTERFLIES!" folk from having to face such an issue, it was overlooked. C'mon people. Give me some credit for jotting all that down. ;o Let me reitterate: 1- move custom weapon filter games into a whole other category. Not everybody is going to use them, and even the ones that do- not all are going to kill your poison(s). 2- you'd be able to see each filter from the waiting room, you would not have to join each game (in-game spawn) to realize what the filters are - they would meet you up front. 3- you would not be forced to play a custom filtered match. Solution: play in another game server. There's 5 servers, and hundreds of games to choose from. You will definitely find one that's in your tastes. ~Another pro for the list~ You'll find homeys with similar game factor interests; more friends on the list = a better experience for you.

So many people sit there and ****ing ***** and moan about something that probably wouldn't effect them much unless they're scared it would interfere with their playing. It will disrupt you little or not at all.

Get off your god-damned high horse. This is a public forum. He can say what he damn well likes and if you don't have anything positive to contribute, GO AWAY! Quote:
Anyways, regards the idea itself I'm for it in a "why not" sense, but I don't think it'd really be useful. The weapons in Gunz aren't all that unbalanced- there's very little difference between pistols and revolvers and the difference between submachine guns and assault rifles is mainly accuracy over range. Rockets launchers are different, but not game-breaking and there's nothing wrong with shotties. Someone's shooting at you- dodge or take damage. That's basically what it boils down to. Besides, it'd make games hard to start as people sign in and then go desperately scrabbling to change their equipment to something suitable. For example, I don't currently own an assault rifle, a rocket launcher, a machine gun, a dagger, kodachi, a single pistol, revolver or submachine gun (as opposed to a dual set), frag grenades, flashbangs or shield repair kits. In games restricted to these items only, I wouldn't be able to play. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea, I just think it's a bit much more trouble than it's worth.

| Member | Thankya for the feedback, it pwnz. As for the thoughts themselves, good points Arcane'. This suggestion is more of a "why not?", as you put it. It would be an extra added feature, not meant to balance or rebalance something already in game- and extra option, something else to do. Considering what you said, I feel the best idea would to make it (if it were to make it) a whole other room sort of deal. If you wanted to play in a custom match, you'd have to drag yourself of your own will to the section where the custom weps' filtered rooms were and then check for requirements. It would be less apparent to folks who want to quick start a game, and to those that just like browsing the regular rooms and forgot the logo check. I know iGunz has many other priorities to deal with first before they go adding in any feature like this. I still want to shoot me some goblins. Though a feature like the wep' filter could enhance stealth matches a bit. IE, dagger and pistols only. You'd have to use stealth or run and gun a lot more often, and i'd like to see that. Kstylers do make a crapload of noise, while tumblers (gun mode) can move unheard, albeit a bit slower and with less directional control (compared to air dashes). |
