Equip and learn?

Maybe some equips can get you certain improvements like;

Higher jumping
Speed increase
Less of a vertical pull when jumping.
Longer dashes
Lower flip delay
longer Massive time.

That wud not go well with the Gunz theme. Well..it does go with Kand J Gunz...but not with IGunz (no elemental thingys etc till now)

Ofcourse. And the items won't make people look like they are hacking.

Maybe different powerups on the map could give you different abilities, such as extra speed, invisibility, double damage, the like.

this wouldn't work, i'm afraid. there'd be too many people camping the spot and getting all the powerups. not to mention the new cries of "invisibility pickup noob" and the likes. it works with shooters like Unreal Tournament, but it wouldn't work in GunZ.

the clothes idea is good though. Although i already have the feeling that a naked character somehow moves faster (or maybe it's just the urge to survive). it would add some new stuff to the game. people would pay attention to their outfit of choice.

might be an idea to give a bonus to a full set of clothes as well. as an example: wearing the Vinz long coat together with Vinz pants would give an advantage to regular walking speed.
