| Gunzfactorian Commando | Hai. -.-" I've got ADSL and I was wondering if I could make it quicker? I heard of tweakers like "CableNut" e.t.c But they did not help, I dunno maybe I did something wrong... But anyways any help would be nice. Oh and before you answer the answer "Get faster ADSL" or "Get faster internet" or something like that is not an option. >_> |

| Gunzfactorian Commando | Hey SeriOoS!!! ![]() Well mine is the same as yours.. But still my ping to others and the others ping is way too high for such speed, and yes I did optimize my settings and the rest and yes I have a GREAT pc, really its great and I lub it! |

| Gunzfactorian | Dont bother with optimizers they get you like 1 extra kb a second, al i recommend is disconnecting your net once a week for 5 minutes (if you have a router that is). Other than that, get a new internet connection. If your in the UK i recommend Telewest, im on 8mb broadband for £30 a month with no limits |

| Gunzfactorian Guardian | well also, your speed is only as fast as the person your playing, example: you have 10mb cable, your enemy has 3mb cable = your connection speed is 3mb you have 10mb cable, your enemy has 10mb cable = your connection speed is 10mb |

| Gunzfactorian Patriot | Hm the problem isn't the distance in itself, it's mostly the equipment that's the villon. This argument is a bit missused. Let's see what it would be if the entire earth was covered in optofibre: The circumference of the earth is around 40 000 km, now in reality the information wouldn't have to travel all this way, only half of this distance is the worst case scenario. Now the speed of light is almost 300 000 000 m/s, that's about 300 000 km/s. Then, 300 000 / 20 000 = 15 So at lightspeed information could travel half of the earth circumference around 15 times in a single second. Let's see how much that is in milliseconds, 1000/15 = 66,66 ms There, if the information would travel at lightspeed without lockups worstcase ping would be around 66,66 ms. This is only a theoretical aproximation, in reality the routing in the net introduces delays and i also used truncated values. So what i want to say is that on earth, distance isn't the biggest issue, mostly it's technology problems. Now back to reality: These internet speedup applications are just hoax, they will never affect pingtime. My old 50 mhz sparc cakebox happily routes data att around 700 kb/s with good pingtimes. Response time and speed of ADSL depends mostly on how your telestation is built. Is it connect directly to optofibre? Is your phoneline connected to a large DSLAM(maybe 160 ports) which isn't given enough bandwidth? Also, how good is the quality of the phonecables in your house? They could be a small bottleneck. There's alot of possibilities. Certain countries have poor connection to the outside world. (mostly because of geography.) Personally i would test my pingtime against large wellconnected servers close to me (at diffrent times during the day). This usually gives an idea. I used to have 10 mbit LAN, now during daytime i had good ping, during evening it was awfull, the problem was to little bandwidth distributed over way to many customers. |
