Soul Calibur Confirmed for Wii

Namco Bandai confirmed today Soul Calibur Legends, a Wii-exclusive action-adventure addition to the Soul' fighting game franchise.

Soul Calibur Legends marks the second time that the Soul’ franchise has appeared on a Nintendo console, after the GameCube's Soul Calibur II, which featured Zelda’s Link as a playable fighter.

Namco Bandai said that it is developing Soul Calibur Legends to specifically take advantage of the Wii’s motion-sensing Remote and nunchuck. The weapons-based action game will utilize the Wii Remote as a sword. A statement from Namco Bandai said that Soul Calibur Legends will pit players against “scores” of enemies and “large bosses.”

Japan’s Famitsu games magazine first revealed the game for Japanese audiences last week. The game will come to US retail this winter.

The Soul’ series, which includes Soul Blade and Soul Calibur 1, 2 and 3, debuted 10 years ago and has sold 9 million units worldwide. The franchise has appeared on both home consoles and at arcades.
