| Gunzfactorian Commando | I was talking with a friend and we started discussing things that didn't make sense about games. How come when you kill random monsters in mmos like bees, woodland critters, bugs, they leave you money? Or better yet, a crab leave you gloves? Where did they get money or gloves to begin with? And where does the crab keep the gloves? They certainly weren't there to begin with. In Morrowind, there is a "Mudcrab Merchant." He has like 10,000 gold or something like that. A weak Mudcrab, on a deserted island, has more money than anyone else, where as like the strongest enemy in the game is dirt poor, how can that be? if I saw a talking crab with that kind of money, that regenerates overnight, I'd capture him and bring him back to one of my houses. In (generally)mmos, why can you can run through people, but still be punched? Why can you pick up a massive Battle Axe at level 10, but not a small rock that requires level 20? And how does a bear drop the rock that requires level 20? That's not fair, he isn't level 20. Why can you wear a blue shirt that requires level 10, but not a red shirt that requires level 20? You have the money, and it's your size, but you just can't put it on. How come the bear can have it though, he's not level 20 either, and it's way too big for him. Why, whenever you're trying to save the world from imminent doom(i.e. Final Fantasy) all the shop owners still want to sell you everything? What? You don't have any money? Well, we're ****ed and so are you then. Ok, I've got more that NEED answers, but, I'm done typing this for now. Last edited by Admiral Awesome (115 votes); 06-12-2008 at 04:16 AM. |

| Moderator | I thought about this myself many times, but it's easy to see the answer. It's all part of teh game system. For example, if merchants gave you stuff away for free simply because you're the sole warrior capable of saving the lands then you could have everything you wanted, buy the best stuff and breeze through the game without ever being short on goods and supplies. That cheapens things, sort of like using hacks, and makes them less fun and challenging. On the other hand, if you've got to struggle for your money and items, then it's a lot more challenging and difficult, and you have to actually manage your money and use it wisely in order to buy things you most need. The same thing applies to creatures that would normally not carry items like gloves or money (crabs in your example). If all you're fighting for most of the game is monsters then where else would you get money from? I mean, you're putting forth effort to kill monsters, probably damaging your gear and weapons, and losing health which probably requires you to use up health kits, etc., but get nothing in return? Well, that's just the way the game system rewards you so that you can replenish your supplies and money, and thus the game economy is preserved. The shirt/armor/whatever applies the same way. It would be too easy if you could wear and use everything simply because it fits you. I mean, there's armor that requires higher level, but other than that it fits you, right? So why not just grab the best armor and wear it at level 1? That would simply make it too easy. |

| Gunzfactorian Guardian | Because it is a GAME it isn't reality, they can do whatever they want, and things don't have to exactly make sense. Especially morrowind it's a fantasy game, when you start asking those questions you shouldn't be playing games, because you are just too serious. |

| Gunzfactorian Commando | No idea. To be honest, I never found it but it's supposed to exist. I used the scamp with 5000 instead. He was in a town with a Mages Guild so it was easy to get to. I think the town was called like Caldera with the Scamp merchant. Morrowind was too easy. I had to make it harder on myself by killing him off so I wouldn't use him. I also had to kill other various merchants and people with spells so I wouldn't get those either. |
