Activision and RedOctane have stepped up the guitar controller game, adding an all new set of hardware features to the plastic axe that ships with GHWT. No longer are you limited to just five colored buttons and a whammy bar, as the new Guitar Hero proprietary peripheral adds a new touch-sensitive slider on the neck, a new bridge button near the strum bar and a built-in accelerometer. Not only can they all be used during regular gameplay—oh, and your old Guitar Hero III guitar controllers will still work—but they all add a little something to Guitar Hero World Tour’s new music creation mode The Slider: The new guitar controller’s coolest feature lets players muck with sustained notes with finger slides up and down the slider strip area. It can also be used to tap out notes like a virtual Eddie Van Halen for those note heavy Dragonforce moments. In Guitar Hero World Tour’s music editor, the slider acts as an arpeggiator, playing rapid-fire notes with in the Music Studio mode’s various arpeggio styles. The Knob: It’s a knob. And it’s definitely the least exciting new aspect of the updated guitar controller. Hey, it looks cool. Let’s talk about The Accelerometer instead. That little piece of hardware can be used to adjust the pitch of your notes in the game’s music editor, doing double duty as the device that sense you want to engage Star Power mode. But if you like to keep things level… The Bridge: See that “Star Power” line of text on the new bridge button? Yeah, that’s how you’ll activate Star Power, should you not feel like erecting your axe with a quick thrust. In the game’s music editor, it’ll let you add palm-muted notes to your tracks for a little variety. And if all that ain’t enough! Guitar Hero 3 tracks you downloaded from either Xbox Live or the PlayStation Store won’t work on your copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith but will work on your Guitar Hero World Tour -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links: Guitar Hero 4 GUITAR HERO® - Officail site -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT GH4 Very exciting details have now been confirmed! As we had already revealed Guitar Hero 4 will add drums and vocals just like Rock Band. The pre-released issue of the Game Informer article that featured GH4 is now out and includes a shot of the drum kit that includes three pads, two elevated cymbals, and a pedal (as opposed to Rock Band’s four pads and a pedal). Which means that the new Guitar Hero 4 kit has one extra input than the Rock Band equivalent - compatibility between the two series’ instruments may have problems. The Guitar Hero 4 drums pads are going to be wireless and they will be pressure-sensitive so the game can tell if players are rocking out too hard by hammering on the drums or merely tapping them. As for the Create-a-Song feature it now appears to be called studio mode, which will give players a variety of ways to create their own songs. Players will, as normal, be able to jam along with one of the game’s tracks, record songs as they’re played, or meticulously detail note charts (similar to Guitar Hero Explorer?). You will also be able to share the songs they create. Initially you’ll only be able to upload five songs for others to enjoy, but if those tracks are rated highly by other users, the creators might “get signed,” raising the cap to 10 songs or more. Ingenius! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NEW Guitar Hero 4 to cost 179.99 with instruments. Some info was leaked New guitar sets you free: New touch-sensitive guitar Neck Slide opens up the entire guitar neck for unbound solos - shred how you want. Some artists for GH4: Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse “and dozens more”. -Lips is a music and singing game that includes 30 songs, 2 wireless interactive microphones, the ability to use and sing your own music or downloaded songs from an online service. Designed to have fun with friends, Lips scores you on your singing (pitch, rhythm, and tune) and overall performance. Wireless mics are interactive, with lights on the shaft of the microphone that pulse to the rhythm of your voice, and motion sensors that allow you to dance, move or swing to score points. Take songs from a CD or your ipod, and upload them into the game. The game will reduce the vocals so you can sing along and be heard, and score on whether you’re in tune. Lyrics can also be added directly into the song to sing along. It’s hard to know how much of this will be true. But you can bet that if half of these details become reality it’ll be very very cool!
