| Gunzfactorian Hero | So, here's my story: I NEED a legal copy of Photoshop, but I was extremely turned off by the price. Until, my teacher hooked me up with a site that sells with student discounts. They sell photoshop (CS3 extended) for like $280 =D But now the problem is, I prepared myself for the worst case scenario already (paying $650 for the regular version), and I saw some offers that seemed extremely good on there, like CS3 design premium and Web Premium for $580 (HOLY CRAP). Think it's worth it? I have yet to learn how to use those programs, like illustrator, but I do know I'm going to be doing stuff with web design and other sorts of graphics (so maybe dreamweaver and flash might come in handy?) , and I don't know much about their video editing tools, but they seem impressive. What do you guys think? (Yes, I will give you the link if you're interested). Remember I NEED A LEGAL COPY OF PHOTOSHOP FOR NON PERSONAL REASONS BUT I'M WONDERING IF THE ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE IS WORTH IT, I WILL, WITHOUT A DOUBT, PURCHASE PHOTOSHOP. | The One and Only | They let people crack the program so that more people become interested in the program. They know that kids aren't going to be able to afford the program to learn how to use it, so they create more graphic designers and such other people that would require the program by letting them pirate the program. That way they grow dependant on it for their occupation or as a hobby, and later on will purchase the legal version. |

| Gunzfactorian Hero | As I was saying, I NEED a legit copy of photoshop. I have been using said pirated copy for some time now, and it's about time I buy the software (I'm starting to sell graphics). Some of you guys can't read, so I'm gonna edit my first post. |

| Gunzfactorian Soldier | I think you should take it the offer. I mean it seems like a decent deal. I m pretty sure you can pick up on how to use the program later. Course I'd crack it, but in your case, we wouldn't want to get caught now do we ;o. |

y didnt u say in the first place???? ok... as i said before... Adobe made it easy to crack... so they could win big money from companies.. I did some research on Adobe's site... watched some tuts.. etc.. anyways... it turns out... that unless u have all then added together... for instance a package with like Premire pro... or flash... and CS3.. it wont be much different.. CS3 extended as basicly like this new Vanishing point thing... that no one uses... it also has this weird 3D editing part... tahts sort of like Z-Brush... so my final suggestion is... if you dont plan on buying a big *** set... just go with normal CS2.. heck.. i know peoples who are pro with just CS /discuss ![]() is this relevant now??? p.s. if your buying this for school work... cant the school pay for it???? | |

| The One and Only | I'd say go for the more expensive one if you're going legit. I mean, I don't know a ton about the extra things, but more options is always better. And I didn't do a ton of research on it, but I looked it up just now and it seems like it comes with more programs like Illustrator and such, which will help majorly with certain issues you may have with file formats and etc. There are a lot of situations where those extra features would come in handy, and considering how great that value is, I'd definately get the higher priced one. As far as just simply photoshopping goes, you can do anything with Photoshop 6.0 that you can do with CS2(I don't know anything about CS3 yet, so maybe that too). There are just a few tools in the updated versions that make the workflow a little smoother and a little faster in some scenarios. Last edited by Paul; 05-22-2007 at 11:35 PM. |

| Gunzfactorian Hero | Alright, thanks guys. I think I've whittled it down to Web Premium over Design Premium because it's about $100 cheaper and basically replaces InDesign with Fireworks and Contribute. Fireworks seems redundant and Contribute doesn't seem that useful, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be making instruction manuals or some other form of print anytime soon with InDesign, but if the time comes, I'll just buy it or do it in photoshop. And yeah, I looked for an older version of photoshop before, but I can't find any official copies and I don't trust online retailers, or people on Ebay, who don't have a hell of a reputation. I've been using 7.0 before and never thought about upgrading until now only because I'm going legit. It doesn't matter as much now with the freaking huge discount though. |

| Banned | Well I'm too late to post now but I decided to anyways because it's good information for future reference. Here's an article about Flash joining CS3. Today @ PC World Adobe Flash Benefits from CS3 Integration Actually Creative Suite 3 Web Premium costs $1599 (WOAH!) but since you don't have the legal version of CS2, you can't use the upgrade price which is slightly better ($499). (Got this from latest volume of PC World XD) My 'webdesigner' friend uses Fireworks too and he says it's quite good and that Photoshop is overrated, psh but there you go. |
