Mouse Cursor format?

Recently I've been interested in on how to make your own Mouse Cursor. Can you tell me how to make one, what for mat it should be saved in, and what programs you need?

anyways..

there are programs out there that convert image files into cursors.

save image as microsoft icon(.ico),go to ur control panel open the thing with the mouse icon, click the pointers tab, click the browse button and search for the image and press ok!
and it should be done

what about like... the text cursor (looks like this "I") and the loading thing (default is an hour glass) and like.. the over a link cursor (its a hand o.o)
