| Banned | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First of all, i have been playing gunz since last year and this is how i have to play everytime! now i cannot even see the server list after the latest patch! okay, when i usually play gunz, i have norton anti virus and nvidia firewall, i block firewall and disable it, but i just leave the norton on. everytime i play gunz, or enter a game i have the rejoin everytime because i see everyone with 999 ping. after rejoining its perfectly fine, but everytime a new person come joins the game while im already in the game, i see that person who just joined 999 ping. Again i always have to rejoin. but thats not all, when i play gunz sometimes i get this msg from norton http://img113.imageshack.us/my.php?image=error0no.jpg i always press PERMIT but it doesn't work it just keep popping up and on everytime i press permit button. even if i disable norton auto protect it still does it. another issue while playing gunz is LAG spike, before the latest patch, my lag spike happens sometime, but after the new patch when i get lag spike, it stays that way until i either rejoin or alt+tab and come back to the game. this really ruins my whole experience in gunz because of these problems. please help i really do need help! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's a >BA~D< idea and generally >NOT< needed. Seriously, Guntrix should know better. Most likely, the Agent Errors you're getting ("Agent Error" = 999 ping) have to do with a firewall (check your software firewalls, like ZoneAlarm and Window's Firewall and make sure they allow Gunzlauncher.exe >and< Gunz.exe), or it may be caused by NAT on your router (this is supposed to be fixed, but I'm not 100% sure if it works, yet). In this case, you need to disable NAT on your router or use port-forwarding to bring your computer around it. DO NOT REFORMAT UNLESS YOUR ENTIRE COMPUTER IS SCREWED UP AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!!! |

| Gunzfactorian | Yeah I reccommend you reformat. Your computer probably has viruses from limewire. You should find other ways to get your cracked versions of Photoshop CS2. >_< *just making assumptions* ^_^. (Torrenting works best for me, much less spyware/viruses). To reformat, pop in your windows XP cd, (in the BIOS make sure boot sequence has CD drive to boot before the hard drive). Then a message should pop up saying "Press any key to boot from cd..." When this happens... press any key. Then follow the instructions to do a complete (not quick) format on C:/. If you have other drives you should format them too, viruses like to spread themselves around. Installation of windows XP is pretty easy, just follow the instructions. If you have a computer nerd friend ask him to help you out. BTW This is all under the assumption that gunz isn't working because you have a virus, and if norton is acting funny that might be the case. Don't go formatting if you're not even sure you have a virus. It's a lot of work to reformat, if its just your first time be prepared to spend an hour or two formatting/reinstalling, and a few hours getting all your software and stuff back. Sometimes I like to format my computer, I backup all the software I need on an external hard drive. A clean install gives the feeling of a new computer, and it always runs faster and smoother. =D |

| Super Moderator | Listen. To. Me. Carefully. DO NOT REFORMAT YOUR COMPUTER Reformatting your computer deletes EVERYTHING on it. That includes drivers, your installed programs, your saved documents, EVERYTHING. It's NEVER a good idea to reformat your computer because a game doesn't work. If you still don't understand the concept of reformatting, think of it like this: Someone rips your brain out, and gives you a new one. All your old memories are gone... forever... Of course, you can back up your files, but it's not worth it. EVER. Quote:
And with all the updates, it's damn near impossible to get everything you need for a stable system in an hour.... maybe 3 if you're lucky. -AKAlias | |

| Gunzfactorian | Well I'm used to it, and these days windows updates most of your drivers for you. I did say its a lot of work and it would take a few hours to get all of your stuff back. That being said, it's a good idea to reformat if you've got a virus that norton can't handle. I'm sorry if I made my response sound like a "Reformatting your computer is a great way to get gunz to work" post. It's not, it's a real pain to reformat, especially the first time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I wouldn't use reformatting to remove a virus.... If you have a screwy virus, the first thing to do is to boot from CD or an unaffected drive and run Norton from there. Most commercial antivirus tools (Norton included) offer some way of booting from the CD or something else (like recovery disks) that allow you to run the antivirus scan away from the OS. This has the benefit, of course, of preventing the virus from running and screwing up your antivirus. That's the first thing to try. You can reformat your computer to make it run "fresher." I've done that once or twice. But it's always a pain in the ass, and definitely not recommended for a computer newbie <_<;;. And like people have already said, don't reformat your entire computer just because a single game isn't working. You'll lose everything unless you take time to back it all up. And you'll have to reinstall everything, too. (Hopefully, Bliz didn't go and do it already <_<;;.) |

| Moderator | Im going to reiterate what's already been said by the smart people and what the dumb ones say won't work. DO NOT REFORMAT Ok, now to tell you what you should do. In my opinion and personal experience, Norton antivirus seems to think that every single game I install on mycomputer is malicious and therefore blocks it. What happens with most non-tech savy people is that they think that ridding themselves of Norton, McAfee(forgot how it's spelled), etc. will cause their computer to catch a virus. Believe me, this is Not True. Now, UNINSTALL Norton Antivirus. I would suggest completely disabling the Windows Firewall because it does absolutely nothing for you. Then go to this website. Download the anti-spyware programs. Afterwards, download AVG Free. This is much better than Norton Antivirus and will keep you protected from many things. Run all the antispyware programs in Safe Mode(allows for a more in depth scan of your computer by stopping many programs from running). Now, reboot the computer in normal mode and make sure that all the programs are updated. You will have removed any/all spyware on your computer that could be slowing it down or slowing Gunz down. Your Gunz application should work fine now. Hope this helps. P.S. ~ from my experience, ZoneAlarm tends to block many programs as well and it's hard to get it to stop doing so so I suggest not bothering with it. |

| Gunzfactorian | The only real effective anti-virus programs are something made by symantec (like norton) or mcafee. This is because they have teams of 1000's of people, fixing viruses the momment they come out. Symantec and Mcafee products always get virus definition updates 24-48 hours before all the other ones (AVG included) get them. Those 24-48 hours are usually the most important. I admit, AVG is an extremly good anti-virus program, and if they got the updates sooner I'd use it. Symantec is the best thing I know of, because it doesn't think everythings a virus (like norton) it doesn't slow down your computer, or encrypt files like McAfee, and it gets the virus definitons actually before norton (because its technically made for corporations.) liveformusic2, windows firewall is a good thing to keep on, even if it doesn't help that much, it doesn't take up many resources and its better than nothing. |
