| Gunzfactorian Commando | Hey all There are a lot of threads in the tech section complaining about screen lag, so im making this thread. To beat screen lag at the moment your best bet is to use the GameGuard disabler which has been released by Legion. There is a chance however if you use this you possibly could get banned, if your scared about getting banned and want other ways to reduce your screen lag, read on, if not go get the GG disabler now. Defragmenting Your hard drive. Defragging your hardrive overall helps boost computer performance. The disk defragmenter can be found in, start-All program-Accessories-System Tools- Disk Defragmenter. This is the default windows defragmenter and it can take quite a while, reports have said sometimes days. You can always download a defragmenter, the one i use is the AusLogics Disk Defrag which can be found at Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com Install and run, wait for it to defrag and then reboot your computer. Scan for viruses. Before you scan your machine for viruses make sure you have a decent enough Anti-Virus, this doesn't mean you will have to pay. Two of the best free ant-viruses are AVG antiVirus and Avast Anti virus. Go to Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com search the two, and read the reviews on them and pick the one you wish to. Once you have installed the anti-virus, the first thing you need to do is update it to the latest virus definitions. Once updated start a FULL system scan and remove everything it finds. Reboot once completed. Scan for spyware. This is pretty much the same as scanning for viruses except we need to use different software. There are only two you will really ever need which are Spybot: Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware, which both can be found at cnet's trusted Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com Download and install both. Update both to the latest definitions, scan with one (Spybot:Search and destroy) reboot your pc then scan with the other (Ad-Aware) reboot pc after that too. Change Windows setting for best performance. Right click my computer and select properties. Press the Advanced tab, press settings under the performance menu (top one) On visual effects tick the box 'adjust for best performance' press apply then ok. Your windows will look ugly, but less process power being used for visual effects. Use the edited config.xml settings. Search Gunzfactor for the edited config.xml this will make your graphics crappy but reduce fps lag. Updating Graphics drivers. You may need to update your video card drivers, first go to start-run-'dxdiag' and press run. Press the display tab at the top and it will bring up your information about youre video card. Next go to google, and search the name of your video card (example: google search: ATI Radeon 9250 drivers) and update to the latest drivers. Alternatively if you know what make your video card is, visit their site and download the latest drivers. Once downloaded, install them and reboot your computer. Changing Hardware acceleration. Right click your desktop and then properties. Press the settings tab and then the advanced tab. When the advanced menu comes up press the troubleshoot tab. It will being up the hardware acceleration bar, NEVER go below 3 bars away from full as Gunz will not run. Experiment to see which one suits you best. Ending Useless processes. First check your taskbar, in the bottom right hand corner are there any icons that you are not using (example: MSN icon, but your not currently using msn messenger) right click it and press exit/quit. Once you have done that bring up taskmanager (ctrl+alt+del) and press the processes tab. End any uneeded process next to your login name (example bob) Do not end any processes next to SYSTEM as you need them. Once you have ended them bring up your gunz launcher but do not press start, dont minimize it either. Bring up task manager and end the process 'explorer.exe' this will make your taskbar and all desktop icons disappear but free up a lot of system resources which will reduce fps lag the most. Exit task manager and press start game. Once you have finished playing gunz and you quit, just bring up task manager, processes tab, press file, new process and type: explorer.exe and press ok. Your taskbar and desktop icons will now reappear. That is what i do to help reduce FPS lag and i have successfully achieved it. If you found this guide useful please +rep me as it took me some time to make it. Hope it helps some. Gamezman ~ Last edited by Gamezman; 07-22-2007 at 05:52 PM. |
