![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What is good and evil? Are they two distinct things, or are they merly a conflicting idea of an overall belif? ex: Terriost attacks in the USA: The us public would say that the people that blew up the world trade center are "evil". But they prolly thought that they were doing the right thing, therefor they SUA is evil and they are good in thier eyes. So could the whole good vs evil thing just depend on ones point of view? Ying-yang shows that there will always be a little bit of evil in a world full of good and vice versa, but what i ask, could there be no good or evil? Just people with conflicting thoughts? What do you think? Last edited by LordShaft; 04-28-2007 at 06:28 PM. |

| Gunzfactorian Soldier | It all depends on person since everyone sees world slightly different, ie. cultural things and such affect the way you look on objects. Also people have different moral values and limits. For example: someone might see downloading music from internet as viable way since he believes that record companies are ripping of far too much money etc. While others consider that as stealing. This topic could be discussed in many ways with longer and better detailed examples, but I doubt many will bother to look deeper into these interesting things. |

| Gunzfactorian Patriot | Well you still have to define good and evil, Whether or not it is contingent on perception. But because the terrorists who blew up the twin towers thought their act was good and not evil most definately doesn't make the act any less evil. There IS a standard. Just because people have different opinions on the standard doesn't mean anything can be considered good or evil. I myself would define good as something that protects people from harm and/or death, and bad would be something that promotes harm and/or death or causes harm and/or death. Of course, what's good or bad is different from what's right or wrong. |

If you approach this from a satanist perspective, then you might say he is good. I would agree that there is a standard. Harming another creature without any reason should be seen as evil, and helping a creature should be seen as good. The Grey area is what justifies the harming of a creature, and/or what is "helping" a creature. Your example of terrorists is perfect they believe they are serving their creator and doing what is right, while we see it as the murdering of innocent lives thus labeling them as evil. Perhaps rather than looking at the individual, look at the act. We can believe that they believe they are doing the right thing, but we nonetheless should keep are stance that the action was evil; perhaps view them as misguided. Of course they will see us as the misguided, so it all comes down to where you draw the line. | |
