Default Permenant Paralysis, Coma

I was thinking about this. This issue have already been argued many time over, with some well-known cases: oneself or someone being permenantly, fully paralysised or in a permenant coma, and with their family members wishing to keep them alive.

First, on the case of oneself. Would you really want to stay alive, even though you're completely incapable of movement (or even practically dead)? And if you do, why would you want to be? Do one hold on to such hopes because

- They fear death?
- They still have things they want to do?
- They want to be with those they love?
- Or is it something else?

But really, will the people around that person consider him/her a burden? I know many will, willingly or not.

And worse, when it happens to someone you hold dear. Assuming that they are unable to make the decision themselves, will you still want them to stay alive, even when they will have to continue on by lying in a bed and being attached to a machine all day? And why?

I think that such an action simply shows that they are selfish. They want them to keep going on because they cannot bear to part with the victim; thus, while the person continue his/her existance in pain that cannot be expressed, those around them can comfort with the fact that they are still alive. If they love that person so much, why did they let him/her suffer so?

Well, please do post what you think about this. I am not wrong, nor am I right; this is but my opinions, so please do not flame anyone here for saying what they think (unless everyone universally agress that person's a downright jerk )
