| Gunzfactorian Soldier | http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061020/...nvisibility_13 This article states that scientists have successfully created an invisibility cloak. It was not without flaws, but true invisibility might just be possible. Think of the ramifications of such a technology, folks. Discuss. |

| Gunzfactorian Soldier | It all depends on who gets their hands on the technology. If it becomes a reality, do you really think the government wont guard it with everything theyve got? Surely there will also be a counter-technology to this? There must be a way to disrupt it, right? (Youll have to excuse my lack of apostrophes. For some reason, my browser brings up the "find" toolbar when I try to insert one.) |

| Gunzfactorian Commando | It's a big no for invisibility due to the fact that people will try and break through the government protection no matter how hard the government will try to protect it, and they will use it for their own benefits. |

| Gunzfactorian Hero | I read up on it a little and saw that they would use it on planes cockpit for pilots to see below them. But invisibility cloaks probably wouldn't be released to anyone BUT government or so called "special" people such as the president. |

| Gunzfactorian Soldier | Yeah, I imagine that if this does succeed, it will be highly classified for a LONG time. No problem about your posting it in OT. I wasn't sure where to put it...see, I'm a huge tech geek, so something like this seems serious to me. XD I wonder what the limits of what can be cloaked will be? I imagine a mobile stealth cloak is already in development, though it's probably years or even decades away. Would it allow something to be invisible even where thermo is concerned? Infrared light is light too, and thus I believe this technology bends that light around the cloaked object/person as well, but if something is hot enough and radiates enough heat, would the unbent infrared light beyond the range of the cloak look normal? So many questions. I feel like a kid in a candy store, thinking about this. It's everyone's dream to be invisible, no? |

| Banned | I heard the Japenese made on about a year or two ago. It uses high-tech cameras and reflectors to capture its surroundings and display them, thus creating an illusion of invisibility. You aren't really "invisible" your just creating an illusion. |

It works, to an extent. It's not really...shall we say, mobile. The amount of processing power it takes is actually enough to create detectable heat, too. Kind of defeats the purpose of being invisible if someone can just flip on an IR camera and stare you in the face. | |
