| Banned | http://www.antipsychiatry.org/index.htm This is a quite interesting site about the fallacys of practicing psychiatry. Id only suggest you reading into this if you've got a bit of time on your hands, but if you feel your up to it Im sure youll be able to take something with you. I read through parts of the first couple sections and just felt like sharing this with you all. So... time for the disscussion part I guess. Are you a psychiatric patient or suffering from a mental disorder? What are your thoughts after reading? Did you read any of it? What are your thoughts in general? Here are a couple of the more relevant issues in my opinion. http://www.antipsychiatry.org/ritalin.htm http://www.antipsychiatry.org/exist.htm http://www.antipsychiatry.org/suicide.htm http://www.antipsychiatry.org/lawson.htm Have fun. |

| Gunzfactorian Soldier | You know, most of this stuff is true. A lot of the illness out there is in our heads. But then it's like giving up something part of yourself to just go "screw it, it's made up and I'll stop believing those nutjobs." You practically need to hypnotize yourself into thinking something doesn't exist if you already think it does. Funny reading their suicide article. Sheesh, they don't account for what impact it will have on people around them. It's a dangerous thought to have people think it's OK to take your own life. Well, there goes the emo population. |

| Former Caustic Mod Golden Gunzfactorian ![]() | Eh....I have ADD. Diagnosed and everything. My parents knew I had a problem since I was little but they tried the "wait and see" approach to it. When I went off to college and had numerous problems stemming from having ADD they finally told me I had it. I got on meds. It was a world of difference. I could actually continue to read when someone else was talking in the hall. I didn't zone out every 5 minutes during lectures. I knew were my keys were. I could keep track of time. ADHD exists. Yes, they too damn quick to reach that diagnosis and parents are too happy to drug up their kids. There really isn't any social stigma with having the more common mental problems now. Prozac is like the midlifer's candy. Same with Zoloft, Paxil, and whatever else upper-middle class housewives keep in their medicine cabinet. |

![]() | just looking at this site makes it look like some fundamentalist site. i can say that there is the possibility of some mental diseases being illegit, but to say that even most of them are is difficult to believe. schizophrenia i doubt is fake. i have known people with this disease and unfortunatly its not all in the head. they usually know that something isnt real and they try to fight it, but they cant because something in their minds makes them see it. its much like when you dream, when you dream you can see even though yours eyes cant. think of this disease as a dream when you are awake, only it seems more real to you because you know you are awake. you know how when you look into the dark, sometimes you will see things that arent there? well, that is another example of a minor form of schizo, you are seeing something that isnt there, but is real to you. your mind plays tricks on you all the time, its just when you start believing that everything is real that it can harm you. the body reacts to what the brain thinks is real. if you see something in your dream scratching at you and you really believe it is real, sometimes you actually can wake up with scratch marks on you. this has happened to me, yet i am mentally stable (by scientific measurements, not logical XD). it all depends on the mind and to say that a person can just wish these things away is false since we can only control a small portion of our brain and can only use a very small percentage of it. figure it that the rest of the brain can work agaisnt you, and you will see that mental disease is very possible. |
