New Generation - Better or Worse?

Do you think the new generation is getting better than the older generation, or is it in fact, only getting worse?


The new generation tend to be better off at life, since they have all the latest technology to enjoy and more information to learn and know. At the same time, they only seem to be more spoiled and can't take anything.

Sure, there is now less racism and all, compared to the older days, since now everyone knows the consequences and more about each other. But then again, during the older days, the people are stronger ; they've learned to be more durable in such situations. They can fight back, hold their ground, take more punishment and genuinely think for themselves, instead of the newer generation, who would only cry, whine and complain and rely on others more than themselves.



Let's take the TOPIC here as an example: Kind of ridiculous , where the girl killed herself over flame in the internet.

The internet was created, in hopes of promoting free speech. As in, everyone is completely anonymous and all kinds of views can be easily expressed without fear of any problems. Good, now people have a place to discuss more easily than in real life and are better protected in a sense. Ego, flame, etc has always been on the internet since the beginning, and that is pretty much acceptable. After all, it is just the internet, everyone's anonymous, no one really cares.

But what happens? People begin to take the internet more and more seriously, to the extent it becomes their "life" and forget completely about what happens in the real world. There are more immature people who can't even take this little level of flame or ego, or even regard constructive criticism as pure insult. What do they do? They cry, whine and complain, or even commit suicide. Then, we have parents who have, themselves, become overprotective, failing to realize it was the hardship they suffered that built them to become stronger. They demand for ways to protect the younger generation, but so much to the extent that they are instead, indirectly destroying the younger generation since this action would spoil them. They might even push the blame even though they had realized their child suffered from some problems. As parents, they should have been responsible for this.

Imagine there is a law in which no one can flame on the internet. We'll have a world in which no one can even take a little punishment. And the internet, so built for promoting free speech, is no longer free speech. You can't even voice out your opinions or some good criticism, which may be harsh but true, without having weak people taking everything to heart and report/accuse you for flaming. That's absolute rubbish right?


I believe that the newer generation, though having generally a better life, they have become less able to take punishment and less independent. This is because they have not suffered the same hardship that the older generation have, which is what made the older generation so much better in a sense.

I'dd like tot hink that we as a race are doing better then previous years although there are intolorent family's that bring up thei kids the same way

I would say worse.
A lot worse.

Mainly due to the media teaching children.
More and more familys need the mother and father to work, which means the kid is parented by TV and later the internet.

Every generation of kids is lazier and ruder than the last overall.

I'm not going to type out a whole post on this...but the older you get the more you realize how much better things USED to be.

The new generation where? In developing country I would say the new generation gets better.

It depends a lot on what you think makes a good generation? How happy they are? How intelligent they are? The amount of people who takes higher education in colleges and stuff is becoming bigger, but people willingness to work gets smaller. People are spoiled, but they are also smarter than before.

If you think on an individual level then yes, I agree, a person of the new generation is lazier, crazier and more desperate for attention.

The internet has done more good than bad. Just because a dumb, stupid american girl kills herself because of it doesn't make the internet bad in any way. Just the way it's used. Harrasment can happen outside the internet too.

I think every generation is pretty much the same. Old people always think that young people are lazy, hedonistic, disrespectful, immature, etc. They always blame whatever entertainment kids like (music, TV, radio, video games, comic books, novels, etc) as corrupting them.

Kind of dumb discussion because it's an obvious answer. The next generation will always exceed or we will never evolve into something better such as our capability to create things, our intelligence. Thats exactly why it is important to know the past, so we don't repeat our mistakes. Every generation will have its own problem but from looking at the past it will only get better. People use to stone others to death for looking different or thinking different. There is intolerance but not nearly as bad as it was, the only intolerance you will see in modern time now such as racism is pure ignorance, man fears what man doesn't know, so man just tries to destroy it instead of understanding. The internet wasn't built for freedom of speech. It was created for collecting information, mainly for the Govt. also to control mass media, recently our Govt. has and is against the law ease dropping on phone calls and messages on the internet but since people have been increasingly become more ignorant due to the Govt. dropping education standards no one cares or knows and the ones that do care can't due anything about it because mass media has turned everyone into different individuals who have different opinions, which isn't necessarily bad, but as 1 person against many it's impossible. Ever hear the phrase divide and conquer? Pretty much what the Govt. has accomplished with nothing but greed and power on mind. I believe things will get worse before they get better again, but the next generation will Always be better then the last.

This generation is worse. But its not due to anything other than the will of parents.

Most parents nowdays have their children by accident during a romp session. Some parents just want a baby for the sake of it, and have their child young.

Very few parents nowdays acknowledge the responsibilites they have when a baby is born.

The average international IQ is going up, so I'd say that while manners are being forgotten this generation is better than the last
