![]() | BBC NEWS | Americas | US 'cyber-bully' mother indicted Missouri outlaws cyberbullying after MySpace suicide - CNN.com Basically some girl awhile ago went emo because someone made her qq on the internet so she hung herself. In Missouri apparently now "cyberbullying" is illegal isn't that a bit weak over cyberbullying LOL? Just because someone calls someone names over the internet doesn't mean some simple name calling over the internet should be considered such a crime! Really the person is mostly at own fault if they suicide over some simple internet name calling. Honestly people try to overprotect children from the smallest things. |

| Gunzfactorian Guardian | Oh, that article was found in my english mid-year exam paper. I actually think this is getting really stupid. I mean, come on! It's the freaking internet. You are completely anonymous and no one knows who the hell you really are, whether you are actually my next door neighbour or an alien. All kinds of people are everywhere, all kinds of flame may happen anywhere. Why take the internet so seriously? The heck, this girl doesn't realize that the world is bigger than the internet itself, and ultimately forgetting something called "real life", which is the very reason for this entire thing anyway. If you tell me that you post up stuff like sex videos or whatever blackmail etc or you do something so bad that it even affects your reputation irl, then yes, I'd say it can be a crime. But flaming someone becomes a crime? That's freaking ridiculous! If that were the case, you might as well arrest everyone who uses the internet! I don't see how a little flame like that can affect your real life reputation in any way. People who are overprotected become spoiled too. With this kind of law to be passed down, I cannot imagine how many MORE ego whores are going to spawn, taking the internet like its "srs business" and can't even take a little flame or even constructive criticism. When they do get flamed, they just say "I'mma report to the authorities." and no one would then say anything more. And they would start egoing and thinking "ya that's what j00 get for messing wif t3h noob like me". Pfft. If you can't even take a little flame on the internet, I do not understand how you're even able to deal with scoldings in real life. EDIT: Depression and some kind of disorder huh...? All the more it's the parents' fault for not even watching over what the kid is surfing. Last edited by STM1993; 07-02-2008 at 07:20 AM. |

If not, I'm not sure about the case. As for cyberbullying, I say the person already has problems in their real life and the internet is just an escape. Once it becomes another problem, they are left hopeless. Parents need to start taking more responsibility for their own children instead of blaming society so much.

It is understandable why they want this law, but they don't seem to realize that they are responsible if they knew that their child suffered from such problems. Besides, I reckon this law would only in a way make the internet worse in a number of ways.

| Gunzfactorian Guardian | But that was a 49 year old woman that was abusing the girl. Seriously, she lived through life and knows what is going to hurt and affect that little girl the most even if it is the internet. Sure just simple flaming and remarks shouldn't be out-lawed but when a almost 50 year old womans wants to abuse a 13 year old girl there is something wrong. |

It doesn't take you to be 49 years old to know what hurts someone's feelings you should know that by now. Like I said it's being over protective it's the internet it is a place where most people **** around and active insensitive towards others feelings it is a place where we need to keep our freedom of expression on the internet it is not like she said "I am going to kill you". Simply ignore the person if you hate them or talk trash back.
