I'm a firm believer that the purpose of life is what you make it. That is to say that there is no purpose in life, at least no set in stone official purpose. Therefore, you're essentially free to live any way you choose.

Sure you are, but it's usually a good idea to be happy, live well, and generally draw satisfaction for oneself and others. So really, the purpose here would be self fulfillment, unless there is someone who doesn't want to be happy. O_o

From the wording of the question your assuming there is some kind of creator. Something with a purpose must have intent of design behind it. Something with design must have a designer or creator.

So now your forced to make a decision. Do you believe in a creator? If the answer is yes, you should look into the relms of religion for answers to your purpose. If the answer is no you should ask: What do I want out of life?

To my mind the answer is happiness because no one would choose to be unhappy. After furfilling your basic needs, (food, shelter, water), how you achieve happiness is going to be different for each person, money, family, hard work etc. Whatever the reason happiness is the measure of your success in life.
