Default Gaming is Underrated

YouTube - TBM: Gaming is Underrated

I thought I'd share this video. Her other clips are hilarious, but this topic focuses on the general public view of gaming. She makes some good points.
I'll add more to this topic later. Feel free to contribute.

I generaly agree with her that gaming is under rated. Its not that much of a suprise actually. Typically the newest form of media is highly criticized and film suffered a similar form of criticizm at one time too. Now we have games and the huge amount of public attention games are getting will pave the way to a general acceptance of it because it will be discussed and people will realise that the industry is generally as responcible as the film industry. Parent will also become more aware that games are not ment for kids most of the time and they have ratings on them for a reason.

I believe we can already see the new form of media arrising and being criticized in the form of the internet. Unfortunatly game developers have been inovative and so gaming and the internet have become somewhat linked which may make it harder to break away from the stigma of video gaming.

Gaming isn't as big as movies yet. Wait for a while. In 5-30 years it will be as normal as movies, music etc. I don't think we should blame these grandparents too much when they are concerned, or parents for that sake. It has always been that way. They are scared when their kid locks himself up in the basement with two friends eating nothing but pizza for a weekend in complete darkness LANing. This is only natural. What is not normal is people like Jack Thompson who spreads fear among the already unsecure to get attention.

Pro gaming needs more attention. It's slowly getting more accepted, but the media coverage is lacking. I've heard it's generally socially accepted in Korea, maybe because you can watch the championships on your TV?
