The opinions of others are around to spark interest of those who are listening.

Regarding the best players, or so called, in a game simply brings attention to those who are in fact decent/good/great/best and allows them to be aware of where they stand.

If there was a crackdown on all "top ten players" threads in every game forum finding out who is or isn't decent/good wouldn't be as simple to come by. But that all depends on the person, as everyone does things differently.

Atleast, for some/most games, there's a ranking system. So it's not a question. Now it should make more sense as to why there's discussion.
