| Gunzfactorian Guardian | Butterfly Guide-Written by LittleJP WHAT IS BUTTERFLY? Butterfly is a commonly used k-style move that lets you attack, defend the upper part of your body, and move quickly at the same time. Basically, the combo goes; Jump>Dash>Slash>Block. LEARNING TO BUTTERFLY Most beginners are unable to put the block in after the Jump>Dash>Slash. There are several recommendations to train your fingers to butterfly. First of all, Lightstep (Jump>Dash>Slash>Dash). Then, you can do Dan step or static butterfly (Jump>Slash>Block). Finally, you should be able to be able to butterfly, or bf. BUILDING SPEED The problem most people have when butterflying is speed. I’ve seen people who can butterfly once every second, to people who can bf extremely fast, around 2.5-4 bfs a second. Tips to improve your speed: 1. Don’t hold block. Blocking is merely to cancel the slash animation. I only hold block to dash into a turtling position. 2. Don’t mash the keyboard. Mashing the keyboard will take your fingers extra time to recover from the impact. Instead, tap the keyboard lightly, but heavily enough to produce a keystroke. (BTW I play piano, so I may be better with this than most people) 3. Relax. Stress will tense up your muscles, making it harder for you to butterfly. 4. Practice. A lot. The best way to do it is to race someone using butterfly from one end of town to the other. Or yourself. GENERAL BUTTERFLY TIPS 1. Almost never butterfly directly towards your opponent. This will get you killed almost as fast as standing still. If you must forward butterfly only towards your opponent, at the very least turn your mouse so you move in a zigzag pattern, or if you’re fighting a sprayer, approach him at a bit of an angle at which he is moving. This will have him shoot behind you(hopefully) and miss due to leading. 2. When fighting turtlers, circle bf while changing from clockwise to counter clockwise to mess up their block. BUTTERFLY TECHNIQUES Side BF- Great for envision while still facing your opponent. Forward BF-I disagree with what Scuba says. This move isn’t as dangerous as he/she seems to say it is. Basically, it lets you advance while still facing your opponent. Backward BF-Mostly used to chain BF forward and back in corners. It can also be used to retreat while still facing your opponent. Also can be used offensively to get past a void block. COD Butterfly (Circle Of Death)-Basically, you butterfly in a tight circle around your opponent. It is useful when fighting turtlers. Chain Butterfly-What you do is side-side or forward-back butterfly your opponent. It can be quite lethal in corners. However, rarely do the forward-back butterfly chain due to it being easy to counter. Zigzag butterfly-Basically this combines a forward followed by a side butterfly. It’s used primarily for envision, to get right up to your opponent. It’s also good for a 1-2 hits leading up to something else. The forward butterfly is to stun them, and then you can side bf, and then do a chainsaw butterfly or something. ENDNOTES Now I hope you have learned how to butterfly after reading this tutorial. And you can easily maul an inexperienced Double Butterflier with a fast butterfly. I hope this helped you! UNRELATED STUFF Replays added later. I love specializing lol. | Gunzfactorian Guardian | The back-and-forth thing is really easy to counter. You're pretty much attacking the same place the same way at the same rate every single time, which means that all you have to do to block it is mash the block button at the same rate you attack, you don't even need to turn your monitor. In my opinion, it's better not to start using it a lot in the first place, so that if/when you play at a higher skill level, you won't have to break the habit. It has the exact same effect as say, a static dbf or the regular 2-3 hit invisible slash combo, only it's easier to vblock. The difference is that it's easier to get away from a chain bf combo than a static combo. It MIGHT help if your opponent is trigger happy with massives, but again; most advanced players aren't, and you'll just have to break the habit. Not only that, you can't really control when you're in range of his massive or not with a chain bf, but the person THROWING the massive knows precisely when you'll butterfly forward at him, since you do the same thing repeatedly.
