![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hallo! Blindside here to give you a short guide about a 'not so common' flash step variation. Disclaimers: - Reccomended previous knowledge of FLASH STEP, WIND STEP, HALFHALF STEP to get the most out of this guide. - I do not claim to have created this move or any of the videos that are linked to by this guide. If there is a discrepancy in information displayed during one of the videos regarding the moves done by those players, take it up with them, not me. -If there are any errors please let me know so I can fix them. ---------------INDEX--------------- i. Introduction ii. Explanation iii. Examples iv. Conclusion & Extras i. Introduction I learned about MosNanDa flash step through the Ratpoison tutorial videos on Youtube. I was very curious about how this was done, as I had already learned windstep and wanted to play around with animation locks more. So I sent JoeTurf a message and he explained that it was all done on silent dashes, and required precice timing- much like windstep- to get right. Anyways I went about doing it and so far I havn't seen anyone else use it. Thus my decision to write a guide so more people will know about it. -------------- ii. Explanation To understand mndfs, you have to understand Windstep. Here's a video link that will provide a tutorial for Windstep that's fairly simple: YouTube - Gunz Expert Kstyle Tutorial: Wind step Moving on, we look at Gunzfactor's definition: "Wind Step is a shooting step similar to half step, halfhalf step, or full step, but only a few players know the actual Wind Step. It is basically a Half Half Step with an extra Jump Dash for connection." What they fail to mention, however, is the accompanying animation lock. MosNanDa's discovery of the animation lock was defined as the following: "[Flash step / Light Step] -> Slash based step without block" The animation locks as soon as you perform a slash. A weapon change will not cancel it, however, a block will. So, understanding Windstep, what excatly is mndfs? Answer: MosNanDa flash step is a flash step variation that exploits the animation lock and silencing of dashes. It is performed by slashing, doing a sword->weapon->sword change and then (most importantly) dashing at the correct time in order to lock your animation and silence your dash. -------------- iii. Examples Here is Ratpoison's excellent video which explains the Windstep and mndfs in greater detail and provides a good example: YouTube - Ratpoison tutorials part 3 - animation locks That video alone explains exactly what the steps in question are and how they are performed. There should be absolute clarity after that :} mndfs - Replay 1 : Female mndfs. Basics & Explanation mndfs - Replay 2 : Male mndfs. some more Basics and a couple of combos/tricks. -------------- iv. Conclusion & Extras That's about all. The replays attached show me using mndfs for more extended periods than the youtube videos. You can also hear the timing which will make it easier to figure out. Just bear with the commentary and try and get something useful out of it. Another point that I might add is that I've found this move- although not at all a necessary addition to your repertoire of skills - very handy for sneaking around and keeping yourself suspended in unexpected places. I get accused of modem tapping quite frequently in TDM games, because I've silently wall posted down a hallway without the other team noticing me. xD -------------- Anyways, here's some more videos which show animation lock exploits. Happy learning! | Gunzfactorian Commando | Nice guide. I've been basing my style off of this stuff for a while now. I mostly use the double-flashstep to move around and windstep to initially shoot. It looks smooth when you chain it with some gear taps. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks :} Yeah I've been using dfs too, and basing my movements and style around it. It's great for messing up people's leads and getting behind them when you're fighting. |

| Member | ok. so the first youtube thing u showed me. it looks like dis: i will use the term gear for the movement which uses a dash before the jump. ground to air. u do that. in a fs. lets call it gear flash step. then hes flashstepping back down. it dont look like hes dashing so hes just sword > slash >switch to gun > switch to sword. whilst holding a directional button den hes doing a gear slash shot up. dat it? |

Gear step = Flash step = Light Step :} So yes, in a basic windstep, you go: Flash step ( insert direction here) -> Half Half Step on the timed silent dash to the (insert direction 2 here). Works/looks best if you do Windstep to the left or right moving from the front or backwards. Replay001 -- Also, I found out you don't have to make any initial dash when you start your mos step, you can just Jump -> Gear step in the air with a slash -> Mos step. And your dashes will be silent. Replay004 -- Thanks Efoliaq :]! | |
