| Newbie | Hello! This is my first guide, so please be forgiving in your comments. I have been playing Gunz for about half a year, and I consider myself about 1/4th pro. Because of this, there is a chance that what I post here might be completely WRONG! If something is, please, PM me at once so I can fix it. Also, if you have any suggestions on what to add or chance, PM me as well. Finally, everything I have written about is from personal experience. This is why some of the items posted might be wrong. And without further ado, here is my guide to using lag to pwn. The Butterfly And The Lag: A Lethal Combination All kstylers know what the Butterfly Step is. All players have fought a lagger. The lag in game is almost impossible to get around. In almost every public game, there is that one person who’s ping is higher than 100. But what if there was a way to use that lag to your advantage. Bring in the Butterfly Step. By combining The Lag and The Butterfly, you can make a lethal mixture. In this guide I will show you how to use lag to make your Butterfly Step better. Remember: lag is a sword users friend, not enemy. Index: 1) Requirements 2) Basic BFs 3) Recommended “mini moves” 4) What if it all goes wrong Requirements: A ping of at least 50+ against who you’re fighting, 100 being ideal An opponent that can doesn’t lead like an uber pro Knowledge of the butterfly step The ability to react quickly A back up plan Basic BFs: Forward BF: BF once forward. Easiest to block stun. Left/Right BF: BF once left or right. Hard to block stun but requires more mouse movement and practice to use. Back BF: BF once backward. Hardest to block stun, but removes you from melee range. Good for setting up for PBs after a poor fool massives. Recommended “mini moves”: While the butterfly step is a simple move, how you string them together isn’t. A short combo of butterfly steps is what I call, for lack of a better word, mini moves. Below I will list the most useful of these. I have given 3 classes to these moves: offensive, defensive, and movement. A lot of common sense is needed to use these in battle effectively, because most of them are very specialized in what they are for. I would not recommend trying these in battle unless you understand how they work, explained in the section below. Note: don’t be limited to just these basic techniques. Make up your own. By stringing different mini moves together, you can create some killer combos, as demonstrated in the example at the end of this section. “Zig Zag” Type: movement Use: a quick and safe way to advance against a sprayer/spammer/turtler/anything far way How to: The zig zag is probably the most important evasive of the movement type. By BFing forward, to a side, forward again, and to the other side, you become very hard to hit. If done right, you should be able to get up very close to just about anyone unharmed. The Dstyle equivalent is “Space Invaders”. Why it works: As you probably know, your opponent is seeing you in the past. Because of the movement of this technique seems very random to the opponent, it is extremely hard to lead against. The lag is what saves you. If your opponent is above 50 ping, and they don’t lead, they will almost never hit you. I say almost because there are two weaknesses to this move. First is the transition from side to forward. This is because the forward motion might overlap with the spot your opponent is aiming at. The second weakness is splash damage, AKA rockets. At about 50~150 ping, a person using rockets might be able to hit you if your not fast enough. “Chainsaw” Type: offensive Use: the fastest way to kill a turtler or slow moving target. How to: My personal favorite move is the chainsaw. Its also one of the simplest mini moves there is. Simply BF left once, and right once. An alternative is to BF forward once, and back once. This move will completely destroy a turtler or spammer, because it’s the fastest way to deal out damage using the BF step. I recommend using the forward back version for turtlers and the side to side for spammers. The reason you use the forward back version for turtlers is because they massive. You dash in forward with the first BF to give them a massive, and dash backward to get in a second hit plus trick them into using there massive. From there, you have two options. A) shotgun to the feet. B) rinse and repeat. Note: when fighting against a turtler, the forward back BF has a higher chance of block stunning you. But why use it instead of the left right? Simple! Don’t forget the massive. If you do the forward back, you almost always dodge the massive if you time it right. With the side to side, there’s a much high chance of getting massive. And we all know what happens after a massive (*cough pb cough*). Why it works: Right now you’re probably thinking “There is no way this will work. The block will stun you”. But you forget this is a guide about lag. The lag is what stops that stun hitting you. If done right, your first attack should only hit the opponent by the time your sword is out of the blocks range. I believe that the block stun is 100% opponent client side; however I have not confirmed this. If it is completely opponent client side, it works because by the time your sword has hit the block, and given the massive, the sword is already gone. If the sword is not up against the block for more than the ping number, a stun should not occur. “Circle Of Death” Type: offensive Use: a simple way to kill someone who does NOT have there sword out. How to: The Circle Of Death is the most famous of the lag based BF moves. By using the BF is a tight circle around an enemy, you try and get them into a constant stun. This move works relatively well, however there is one major problem with it. Its extremely predictable. With this move, you can destroy almost anyone who doesn’t have a sword out or doesn’t know how to use it right. But all it takes is one well placed massive to get you killed. I prefer to use the example below to take down someone were the Circle of Death would work. Why it works: See why the chainsaw doesn’t block stun you. Also see why I prefer the forward back to left right. NOTE: EXAMPLE BELOW! “Chaos Butterfly” Type: Combo Use: Take down anything in close quarters combat. How to: Every type of the ‘mini move’ has a weakness. An opponent just needs to know that one weakness and they can take you down easy. But wait. What if there was a way to get rid of that one weakness? That’s where my buddy, lag, comes in. The small delay lag gives you is enough time to quickly switch what type of BF your doing to suit the enemies counter attack! Simply, start with a Circle of Death, stop when you hear the ‘ding’ of your opponent getting a massive, chainsaw back, watch the yellow fireworks, and pb them/repeat. Its amazing in its simplicity but also extremely effective. To keep yourself unpredictable, change the direction your Circle of Deathing in every now and again or continue the chainsaw. It’s also possible to start with a chainsaw, and then use the circle of death to dodge the incoming massive, further confusing your poor foe. What if it all goes wrong? If it all goes wrong, you need a backup plan. My personal backup plan is, you wont believe this, lag!(who would have thought?)! Remember, you have about 100-400 millisecond of extra time on your opponent. In some cases, not all, you can get your block up by the time the massive is getting at you, thus blocking it. I also recommend learning other ways of avoiding missives, E.G. ghost evading. I have no clue how the ghost evade works, but it’s not lag based. Thus it is not covered here. More to come, but please PM me with ideas and comments! And dont spam this thread, its annoying... |

| Gunzfactorian Commando | ahuh... btw CoD is extremely effective vs pple with sword out aswell, i oughta know i love switching from dbf ect into a CoD, can usually take most of their hp (if not all) before they can do anything. just gotta know how to start it up, as long as pings under 150 its pretty easy to get up to them after a massive (using lag to dodge it of cause). alot people would do just about all that stuff already, though im 100% sure most wouldnt (the ego noobs, spammers ect cause their idiots. ) |

| Newbie | But it is rocket science! How else do you move so fast? Magic? NO! Your character uses a jetpack to dash X__X The reason I wrote this is because when I was a noob (about 2 months ago), someone tried explaining this to me. I didnt get it. So I made this guide to help people understand this in a simple way and understand how it works. That, and I was rrreeelllyyy bored. |
