| Gunzfactorian | Hello, everybody. I have a problem, and I could do with some help. ![]() You see, as the title suggests, I'm stuck in a rut, for a number of reasons. First off, and I'm gonna be honest here, is I have a bad habit, when I get red health I automatically press ESC > Q > Enter (crashes your client) to escape death, because I'm worred about my K/D ratio on the ranking. The other is that I'm kinda stuck doing the same thing, and using the same patterns all the time because its all I know, and I just don't have the reach to be able to strech out and expore new tricks. Could somebody PLEASE help? I DO want to improve and get better, but I just don't know what to do or how to learn, and it is subtracting the fun from the game. ![]() I'm Morgan_Valle in game, in case it helps. | Gunzfactorian Patriot | Try to stop yourself from crashing your client to escape death. Your K/D ratio won't mean anything if you got 100% from running when you might die. You'll learn more from dying. When you take a lot of dmg and die, think about what put you in that situation and how to avoid it again. Also, what moves / patterns is it that you keep falling into? |

| Gunzfactorian | Well, I use HHS and I think SS tap (that SS where you dash > jump> slash > switch > dash> shoot, I think) I also like to use advanced flash step a lot too for evasion. I use butterfly sometimes for evasion and attacking. But how do I stop a habit that takes control of me when I start to panic? Do I just use all the willpower I've got to try and force myself not to? In regards to breaking your other habits. This can be a very hard thing to do. Fighting players who are on a similar level to you skill wise may help. Playing them you will have to learn how to counter the moves you normally do and learn to counter counter them when they coutner you as well as WHEN to do so. If that makes sense. You could also set out to go back to basics, or use a dager for a while. Using a dagger: Forces you to think more tactically. You can't just spam moves with a dagger. The change of styles might be refreshing and challenging and that can help keep you on the ball. Back to basics: Set out in a game to only use your sword for movement, not attacking. Set out to use only only JSD for a whole game untill you improve with it. Then do the same with SS, HS, HHS. Eventually start using 2 moves in a game untill your using them both effectively and in the right situation. Then introduce morem moves over time. Set out to learn a new move/combo and repeat the 2 above processes. Basically the idea is to keep things fresh and challenging and fine tuning existing techniques. You'd be amazed how few people ever bothered to learn JSD and how effective it can still be, I prefer it over HS and SS sometimes. | |

![]() And thanks for the tips, I'll have to give them a shot. No pun intended. ![]() Would you reccommend watching videos of pros playing to see if I can inherit some good habits or tactics? Last edited by chunky549; 05-02-2008 at 06:10 PM. | |

| Gunzfactorian Commando | you should definitely listen to Amateur he gave very good advice if you can follow what he said well enough you'll be able to improve a great deal. Another suggestion is to find someone better than you, or even better a clan with skilled people (in your specialty) some of the clans out there have skilled people and accept new players to join usually with certain conditions (like no cw). If you can find one you'll be able to constantly train with a wide variety of people better than you. Also another idea, prob isnt as interesting for you since you seem to be a gunner, practicing swords can be a great way to get around your weaknesses because you have time to think and theres more tactics, thinking and countering involved because of the limited range. I know that first hand (sword specialist) and i know it can help a LOT, only problem is swords can get addicting and you may quit using guns so if you like guns don't do it xD YouTube - Makon0's Channel i have a video of me training with two of my old friends (and clan mates) uploaded there if you wanna see it, and if you were to ask I'm sure i can find some really good video's if your interested in watching and learning from video's. |

| Newbie | If you can't bring yourself to get a low k/d ratio on your current account, start a new one and fight the best people you can find. Never leave a game because you are losing. Make a goal you can reach, like "I'm going to make him die 2 times this game" or something. Then take as much pride in your low k/d on your new account (as a mark of courage) as you do on your high k/d on your old one. |
