I think it's due to the fact that they always have some amazing powers and a lot of the people who watch anime have become social rejects (don't hate on me, I'm only stating what I've observed) causing them to fantasize about being able to act all badass and kill everyone.

In any event, as long as this game has the same gameplay as the other ones I've played (minus the stupid adventure mode), it can't be a bad game.

Well, when the series first started, we were introduced with the heroes of the story, any bad guys up until the introduction of Gaara died, so when Gaara seemed obviously like the kinda guy who was gonna rip people apart (his claim to enjoy killing people helped his image) a lot of people started tugging on thier anime loving little peepees - myself included.

And the stupid adventure mode you speak of, saved rise of a ninja from complete fail.
