Two things you did wrong there. First you made a threat, and then you followed it up by throwing the first punch. That's hardly innocent in the court system. Of course, it doesn't make the other guy innocent either. He received a threat, but decided to ignore it and test you anyway. So if you go to court for this then you'll both be found guilty. The way that works is if you plead not guilty and decide to go to court, they will subpoena the guy you punched as a witness who will then relate the events of that day, as well as you, and then both parties will be found guilty. At that point, if the judge feels like it, he might offer you both community service in return for a permanent removal of the misdemeanor from the record (because kids are kids, and a slap on the wrist is enough).
