This is partly true, but electric cars have their own disadvantages. For one, they can't go very fast or very far. They would also need to be charged for at least a whole night to drive anywhere, and they would last only for a few hours (depending on how fast/far you're going). There is a way to charge them quicker, but that can't be accomplished via a regular outlet. You need power straight from the power grid. In essence, we could build lots of "Power Grid Stations" (to replace gas stations), but that would only require greater power production. As you know the number one source of power production is accomplished by burning oil (aside from windmills and nuclear plants, which are much less common). So really, it's just as cost ineffective and hurtful to the environment as regular cars, except perhaps a little bit less, and much less convenient for companies.
