THE in-depth VISUAL guide of LEADSHOT
I'm pretty sure you have a decent idea of what lead shooting means. Applying it effectively, however, is something even the 'pros' have trouble with.
Technical notes:
50 ping = 0.05 sec delay
70 ping = 0.07 sec delay
100 ping = 0.1 sec delay
150 ping = 0.15 sec delay
200 ping = 0.2 sec delay
Question: Why do I have to lead that much ahead, even though it's only 70 ping?
Well, what you're actually viewing on your screen is actually what the other player has moved 0.07 seconds ago. When you shoot, it the same amount of time to reach i.e. 0.07 seconds. This makes it 0.14 seconds effectively, and that's 1.4 body lengths away, assuming the player is dashing.
Question: Wait, isn't ping just the round trip timing? Like, my shot in 70 ping will just take .035 secs to reach the other player?
In other games, yes. In GunZ, no. For some reason, GunZ is showing half of the actual amount of delay. I have to absolute proof for this, although most will agree when they play the game.
Speed and Distance of a dash
A dash last an estimated time of 0.3 seconds and distance traveled is about 3 body lengths.
About the picture: The above player dashes to her left, proceeding to do a SlashShot or HalfStep. I will base the lead shot predictions using this picture.
How to read the diagrams:
Green is where you start your prediction from. I assume everyone has a 0.1sec delay used for predicting the enemy movement direction.
Yellow is the actual position when you have determined which direction he has moved.
Red/
Blue is the area where you should shoot ahead.
50 Ping
50 Ping is pretty straight forward, as the leading occurs within 1 dash length. As seen in the diagram, you do have to lead more than what was supposedly predicted.
70 Ping/EU to NA
This is what I get to most NA players, within the 60-70 range. It starts to get annoying here because 70 ping doesn't look too much, but you hear alot of people whining because they think it's ok not to lead, and find that the other player won't die after 20 PBs. You have to lead about 1.5 body length after determining which direction the player is going.
100 Ping
100 Ping looks just nice on the diagram. 0.1 sec to see direction, and lead 2 body lengths away, just hitting the opponent at the end of his dash.
150 Ping
150 Ping is where it starts to get really unpredictable. Where you shoot will depend on whether the person does R(HS) or R(SS).
If the person does left-right/right-left R(HS), shoot at the RED area.
If the person does R(SS), shoot at the BLUE area.
I can't factor in the other movement if the player is doing other possibilities such as (left-left, right-right, left-back, right-back, etc) R(HS)es. This makes leading anything above 100 ping much harder to predict.
200 Ping
It's almost a game of chance when you play with 200 ping. So much delay to abuse, you can practically walk around without being hit if the other player is clueless.

2nd! Great Post![]()
Good luck with your guide >_>
Good job Lewis.
good job =)
plus rep
cool. hopefully this will help out alot of people who have trouble with this
lewis wuld u have my babies
I can safely say that although this guide is really really informative and really shows the aspects of leading very well,
It isnt going to affect the large part of the community
community : kstylers, dstylers, estylers, sprayers, hybrids
Kstylers use shotguns and few people use other weapons as shotgun proves very effective (i use revs because i CAN) and the spread is soooo large it doesnt even matter to them if the person is 50 ping,
kstylers just need to aim in the general direction
sprayers dont aim
estylers will benefit most from this guide but there is a thinner and thinner line between estylers nowadays and sprayers..
dstylers also use shotguns and this guide will also benefit them
however much of the community is made up of kstylers and sprayers soo....
Still it was a nice guide and since i use revs it has been useful to me
If you think that you can spray with shotguns, you're so wrong. Anyone who has played long enough with shotgun will tell you this.
Shotguns don't spread much if you fight less than 4 body lengths away. Enough reason to AIM.
Remember that I'm trying to predict a Point Blank here, not 1 or 2 pellet hits.
good guide, its definetly gonna help me and others...
7th: how OFTEN do you get a pb?
Not often, even with low ping
So how OFTEN do you get a pb when there is lag?
Even less often.
So reasonably kstylers try to keep about 7 metres away.
At that range, lead for 150 ping = shoot roughly a metre infront.
Anything less just aim at the person and shoot.
Anything more just spam.
